A Little Help to Keep Your Baby Safe
By Wanda Elaine
I am sure that as a parent, especially as a new parent, that you are extremely concerned about the safety of your baby.
If this is your first child, then you are most likely very nervous and unsure of many things. When we brought our first baby home, we had everything all set up.
We made sure that we had a safe car seat, and that we were well educated about how to install it in the vehicle, as well as how to safely put the baby in it, and strap them in.
We had a small bassinet that was placed right beside the bed. It probably did not help any that our first home was a very small trailer, and we only had enough room in the bedroom to put the bassinet right next to the bed.
Really, I would not have had it any other way. You have your baby right there so you are able to hear them if they happen to wake up, cry, or anything else may happen that you will need to check on or take care of.You can forget about getting a good nights rest for at least a couple of weeks. For many people, the sleepless nights keep up for several months.
We happened to be very lucky, our new baby boy was sleeping all night through by the second week. I have seen some of our friends and co workers, who actually went for months on end without a good nights sleep.
We had a change table set up in another room, as well as an area cleared out so that we could put him down on the floor. This way, we could get down on the floor on a blanket and play with him, talk to him, and he could look around the room and out of the windows.
We had a little toy that hung over him that played music, and the animal figures on it would spin around to the music. They become more and more alert and aware of their surroundings as their vision starts to improve. When they are first born, their distance vision is not very good.
We kept our baby in the same room with us until he was about 9 months old, and then we put him in his own room. By this time, we had moved out of our small trailer home, and into a house.
The floor plan was a split floor plan, with the master bedroom being on one side of the house, and two other bedrooms were on the other side of the house.
When we placed our baby on the other side of the house, we had a baby monitor. This way, we could monitor any sounds that our baby made during the night. It was very uncomfortable at first, but the monitor worked great, and we got comfortable with it pretty fast.
There are many things to be cautious about with your new baby. One very important thing is that you want to make sure that when they start to crawl around, that everything is picked up off of the floor. You do not want them to get their little hands on anything that may be small enough to get into their mouth that may cause them to choke. Keep all plastic articles, like grocery bags and such out of their reach.
Also, as a last thing, make sure to check any toys that they may have for small parts that may come off. Believe me, if anything can come off, it will.
Don't let your newborn scare you, what ever you do it will most likely be fine, and you are not going to hurt them. They may be very small, but they are strong and durable. Enjoy you little one. |
